MONDO PANE

MondoPane is a company that promotes social inclusion by offering employment opportunities to people incarcerated at penitentiary institutions in Italy. Through work, the company helps to restore dignity and skills to individuals both during their period of imprisonment and at the end of their sentence by facilitating their reintegration into society with a greater chance of success. MondoPane’s mission is to create social and economic value through work and training by contributing, through an innovative model of “social franchising,” to curb the phenomenon of recidivism by generating impact for the entire community.

Products and Solutions

MondoPane S.r.l. develops and markets a wide range of bakery products under the brand name \”Panatè\”, including bread, Roman shovel pizza bases, classic pizza bases, and panettoni. Production takes place in workshops inside correctional institutions, where inmates – regularly employed under a national collective bargaining agreement – acquire professional skills that can be spent in the labor market at the end of their prison term.

The production made inside penal institutions is marketed on a B2B channel in the foodservice and Horeca market, through domestic and foreign distributors. There is also direct marketing to direct customers represented mostly by large players who own restaurant chains nationwide.

MondoPane combines the artisan baking tradition with innovative production and distribution solutions. The use of efficient processes makes it possible to optimize resources and ensure high quality standards, while maintaining a strong focus on environmental and social sustainability.

Environmental and Social Impact

MondoPane actively contributes to social integration, contributing – through the involvement of inmates in work paths – to the abatement of recidivism by fostering the social and work reintegration of the inmate at the end of the sentence. Bread-making activities, in addition to being a professional opportunity, promote the building of positive social relationships and the improvement of the psychophysical well-being of inmates who feel they are an active part of a value project.

The social cooperative Glievitati, an integral part of the project, manages the activities in the prison workshops and ensures the sustainability of the operating model with a strong territorial impact.

Team

The project is led by an experienced team of bakers, trainers and social workers who work in synergy to ensure the balance between economic goals and social impact. Collaboration between the for-profit company and the social cooperatives involved is the basis for the success and scalability of the initiative.
