KELPEAT

KelpEat is an innovative startup that develops and markets algae-based food products, combining nutrition, sustainability and innovation. The company’s mission is to offer healthy, low-impact alternatives by harnessing the regenerative potential of algae to create a carbon-negative food production model. Through a responsible and transparent supply chain, KelpEat aims to reduce the environmental impact of the food industry and promote a more balanced diet rich in essential micronutrients.

Products and Solutions

KelpEat operates in two main business areas.

The first is the production of snacks and functional foods, with a range of seaweed-based crackers designed to offer a superior nutritional profile. With natural ingredients rich in plant proteins, essential vitamins such as B12, iodine and iron, and antioxidants, KelpEat products provide a healthy and sustainable alternative for daily consumption. Key references include Mediterranean Umami, with savory notes inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, Oriental Surf, with fennel and turmeric, and Neptune’s Bliss, which incorporates ulva (sea lettuce) for a distinctive marine flavor. Alongside dry snacks, KelpEat is developing new advanced food solutions, including plant-based alternatives and the implementation of novel proteins obtained through innovative biotechnology.

The second area involves the supply of dry and fresh algae for the food and nutraceutical sectors. The company collaborates with certified growers in Europe to ensure quality and traceability of the raw material, offering varieties such as saccharina (kelp), ulva (sea lettuce), palmaria (dulse), gracilaria, nori, and Irish moss. Algae come in a variety of formats, including powder, flakes, and whole leaves, and are used by food companies, supplement manufacturers, and foodservice operators to improve the nutritional profile and sustainability of their products.

Environmental and Social Impact

KelpEat is distinguished by a carbon-negative approach based on the use of algae, a naturally regenerative resource that grows without the need for soil, fresh water or fertilizer. This production model significantly reduces the ecological footprint compared to traditional crops and contributes to CO₂ absorption, counteracting ocean acidification. Working with certified European growers ensures a transparent and responsible supply chain, supporting a circular economy applied to the food industry.
